In 2024 mcm=3 has developed a new research stream that brings together the research area on media, democracy, and social change with the one on AI futures, algorithmic cultures and human rights and focuses on the rapid rise in techno-enabled abuse (especially amongst youth and against women and girls). To this end we are currently developing different research projects, funding applications, publications, as well as communication interventions.
The mcm=3 approach to the problem is centered on Communication, and we are particularly interested in the following dimensions:
This stream of research aims to investigate the everyday habitual dimension of the problem in the everyday life of young women in Switzerland and to understand how themselves, their peers, their families, and their educators/schools negotiate with the phenomenon. The aim of the project is to shed light on how we can improve intergenerational communication and strengthen education interventions.
This stream of research focuses on the ways in which different tech platforms are responding to the problem of digital violence, and how they are communicating these responses in effective and responsible way. The aim of the project is to shed light on what tech platforms are doing against digital violence, identify best practices and develop impact-based guidelines.
This stream of research aims to investigate how NGOs at global level are intervening against the problem and enhance communication networks as well as campaign interventions.
