Out of 138 candidates and 9 categories awarded, the spin-off project BUX App, conceptualized by the team around Prof. Vincent Kaufmann (=mcm3 chair), got ranked under the Best of Swiss Apps 2017: winning two gold medals for the use of virtual/augmented reality and high functionality, one silver medal for the user experience as well as being ranked number one based on total amount of points given and number two by audience votes, a creative project at the interface of culture, technology and economy is certifying the great innovativeness of the University of St.Gallen. The BUX App is a cleverly thought-through city guide, which invites locals and tourists on a literacy journey around Zurich. Within playfully narrated city tours, the BUX App user is guided to interesting historic sites or scenes of literature by famous authors or historic personalities. Thanks to multimedia content as for example augmented reality features, 360-degree-videos or audio tracks the app exposes the user to an extraordinary immersive experience, which connects the analog to the digital world. The app that has initially been a KTI-projekt is based on an extensive collaboration between =mcminstitute, ZHDK, Zurich Tourism and dreipol GmbH. Today the app is managed and marketed by the Start-up New Babylon Creations, which has been founded one year ago due to this purpose (www.newbabyloncreations.net).
